Are You Distracted from What Really Matters?

Did you know that if you are really busy that it can be a form of laziness? If you are allowing yourself to become distracted from what really matters because of your very busy lifestyle, it can look like procrastination or resistance to confront how to be truly authentic to yourself. You may not be able to prioritize the important things that matter if you are overwhelmed by trying to keep up and spreading yourself thin. If you are so busy because you fill up your calendar and constantly work on your to-do list without giving yourself a break it can be a sign that you are over-committed and not allowing yourself time to refuel your tank. I call this Busy Bee Syndrome.

Overly busy individuals risk wiping themselves out from the stress they are creating. As a coping mechanism, busy-bees may be using their constant doing as a way to distract, disconnect or numb out. Always doing, especially for others, will ultimately lead to bigger problems such as health issues or sabotaging their key relationships. These individuals are like the hamster running around the wheel in their cage, running constantly without really getting anywhere until they burn out.

There are no interventions for someone who works excessively as there are for someone who has an addiction problem. In fact, our culture rewards those who work the hardest and often the longest hours and who prioritize others before themselves. These individuals often feel guilty when they relax and “do nothing” so they keep moving onto the next thing.

Trying to Prove Your Self Worth

Some busy-bee people are trying to prove their self worth, as much to themselves as to others. If they keep working hard towards their next achievement; so they will feel like they are enough. This person typically skips right over their accomplishments to push on to the next thing without really celebrating the success they have gained. This person will also tend to minimize their shining and not see the full value of what they bring to any project or group that they join or lead. I know this busy-bee syndrome so well as I have been there myself.

You As a Priority

If you really stop to consider what matters and to allow yourself time to reflect on how you will prioritize your time to include yourself as one of your priorities, you may see that when you invest in yourself and put yourself higher on your priority list, you are actually creating stress resilience. When you are truly receptive to SELFcare as a way to prioritize, you will create a more fulfilling and successful lifestyle. This is how you can be fearlessly authentic to yourself.

How many ways have you invested in yourself recently? What if you did at least one thing each day to feel empowered or energized? Then at the end of the day ask yourself  “How did I invest in myself today?” What if you took one action each day that was connected to your heart’s desire no matter how small, and then tracked it for 90 days. Many of you will think this sounds so easy but I know that for some of you this will be a challenge to do with any consistency. I help my clients to take simple steps to learn how to be fearlessly authentic to themself through my programs. Schedule a free consultation to see how I can work with you.
