What is a Dreamers Sundance

What is a Dreamers Sundance?  A Sundance is traditionally a Native American Ceremony experience by many Tribal traditions. Some traditions involve piercing as a way to create suffering for a few individuals so the collective won’t have to suffer. A dreamers Sundance ceremony is pure dreaming and praying with no physical suffering or piercing.

This time of year I’m busy with my preparations for our Sundance Ceremony that takes place over the Summer Solstice in NE Arizona. This will be our 31st ceremony that is done in the traditional way but allowing non-native participation.  As Chief Medic, I am responsible for the health and well being of all of the participants that come to the high desert from all over the world to participate in this ceremony.

This Ceremony is four days of drumming, singing and fasting while we dance our prayers to the tree of life.  We paint a shield, or round leather covered frame, with the images of our intent. This ceremony has profound results and creates very strong catalyst energy to manifest our dreams over the next year.

This ceremony is a big part of my life because I get to support the participants in managing their health during the ceremony as well as assess and treat any problems or injuries that occur during the build up phase of the ceremony. We partner to create a plan for a strong ceremony and anticipate any physical barriers that may come up during their ceremony.

This year I will personally be dancing for the successful launch of Directions 4 Wellness as I work towards my certification as an Integrative Health Coach.
