Why you really don’t want to reduce your stress

Who would have thought that stress and purpose are connected?

Creating less stress is not the answer, unless you are living on an island, this is just not going to happen. You will never really reduce your stress. There will never be more hours in the day or in the week. The key is how you prioritize what really matters that creates stress resiliency and helps you to manage your stress.

Stress is directly linked to your values, your purpose and your goals. You only feel stress for the things that you care about. If you didn’t care about them, you would not feel stress. Therefore, if you truly reduce your stress, you will lack meaning and purpose in your life. For example, look at someone who has just retired from a busy career. They think life will be so great without their work stress until they retire and then they don’t know what to do with themselves to feel purposeful. Many will opt to go back to work or take on new things that fill up the void that retirement created.

Stress resilience is about learning how to navigate and prioritize when life gets busy or when we are standing at the edge of a new experience. Developing stress resilience will increase courage and confidence and will support learning and mastery new skills.

Here are three techniques that can help you manage your stress and use it to create success. It’s worth the investment of energy to learn how to align with stress rather than resist it.
