Three BIG questions: What is the Truth? What do I know? What do I Not Know?
Then ask: What do I need to do for myself……
The Truth Will Set You Free!
These are the questions that I ask myself when I’m feeling triggered in some way because I have learned that exploring the truth is emotionally very liberating. We all have those moments when suddenly we feel our mood tank because of something someone said (or didn’t’ say) or something that happens in our day.
It’s important to explore your inner truth first to uncover what is real about this emotional state and what is fantasy where you are filling in the gaps with fabricated facts that fuel your inner dialogue loop.
The follow up question after I have asked myself these three introspective questions is “What do I need to do for myself that will empower me?” Then I go through my list to empower myself with an action that will rebalance my emotions. It helps to take a few deep breaths and drop down to my core so I can tune into my intuition and feel into my heart’s desire.
This is an area where I support my clients to pick up new tools for empowerment. Is there a tool or practice that I can use to shift my mood? Do I need to have an open-hearted, honest conversation with someone? Will journaling about the answers to the three introspective questions help? Perhaps reaching out to a friend to derail my negative inner dialogue with fun and pleasure. Explore all the options that will shift your attitude out of negative and back into neutral without going to those sabotaging habits of condolence and indulgence that tend to disempower such as emotional eating, alcohol or a Netflix binge. If you don’t unpack the truth about why you are triggered from the inside, then you will stew and swim in your emotions and go further down the rabbit hole into shame, anxiety or depression. By exploring what is the truth that you know and what you do not know, you can keep an open mind and not spin yourself out with your own scenarios. It also helps you to stay present in the moment with what is real. If you do find that you are feeling shame or anxiety about something or that you feel depression settling in, these three vital questions are like a mantra that you can use to get unstuck from your disempowering emotions. It’s part of our humanness to feel the full spectrum of emotions both good and not so good. You don’t have to stay stuck in any state if you have practices and tools that you can pick up to shift your attitude and approach at will. Now that is empowerment in practice!
