Using Maximum Energy with Minimum Effort
My teacher said many times that the number one way to gain more energy is to stop the ways we lose energy. We could all use a full tank to meet the demands of energy output as the holiday season launches. There is more to get done, and more events to attend this time of year. We need to be vigilant in how we focus our priorities to not over-extend our energy resources.
Optimally, we want to celebrate the holiday season using maximum efficiency with minimum effort, called the “Maxi-Min” principle. Keeping up with work and year-end projects as well as making time for family and friends, and the traditions that make the holiday season so special.
If we wipe ourselves out from stress and overwhelm, we will either get sick, bankrupt our internal energy resources, and burn out, or possibly experience both. How can we keep our investment in our energy bank strong?
Seven Key Tips for Maxi-Min Energy Flow
1. To keep your immune system strong, prioritize your lifestyle routines for exercise, sleep, and nutrition.
2. Make a comprehensive to-do list and keep it visually accessible. Tick things off the list as you complete them.
3. Each day, plan 3 daily priorities that you will complete for both work and home.Keep this focused list short; any extra tasks are a bonus!
4. Embrace these wise words of leadership: “It’s never too late to delegate!”
· Be receptive and say yes when help is offered
· Ask for help from others. Provide clear instructions for the task without micromanaging. Allow them to do it their way.
· Offer heartfelt appreciation when others support you.
5. Maxi-Min energy principle in action is how you catch the draft of energy flow. For example, watching snow geese in flight, if you do all the flapping to get something done, it will cost more energy than if you draft with the energy of others in your flock. Also, in terms of road racing with bicyclists, who ride together in one tight energy stream to catch the draft of the bikes leading the pack.
6. Make investments in your self-interest. Is this something that I need to do now, or can it wait until after the holidays? Be loyal to yourself, your energy and your calendar.
7. Be realistic and have clear boundaries and bottom lines for the commitments you make and keep space open to enjoy the spontaneity and joy the holidays will bring, so you can be thankful and not resentful.
