12 Women in 2012.
In 2012 there was a group of 12 women that came together with the intent to give beauty back to our community. We wanted to work on a project for women. One of our 12 women suggested remodeling the women’s restroom at a local homeless day shelter. The existing restroom was “revolting” in her words and basically a prison style with odd shaped stall doors, drab colors and no true mirrors and stainless steel sinks and toilets.
The circle of women were a diverse but extremely talented group with each of contributing to the work. We raised the funds, acquired many donations of materials and manpower from the community and by the end of 2012 were putting on the final touches to what turned out to be a truly inspiring project.
The highlight was working on two HUGE mosaics. We learned so much about ourselves in this project. Where our intent was to empower women to transform, we were each empowered to transform just by working on the mosaic projects. Piece by piece we saw a glimpse of our inner self and how the smaller pieces come together for form a more complete image of beauty.
We recently got together to celebrate our victorious success. The photos are some of the highlights of the project. The greatest success was for the homeless “clients” of Lodestar who have a dignified place to go for the restroom with real mirrors and inspirational quotes.
